20,000 Argentine Pesos Banknote (2024) UNC
The 20,000 Argentine Pesos banknote is the largest denomination currently in circulation in Argentina, issued by the Banco Central de la República Argentina (BCRA) on November 13, 2024.
Offered for its historical significance, the 20,000 Peso banknote is the largest denomination printed Argentina in the last thirty-four years. For collectors, it also marks a turning point in Argentine monetary history, issued just months after President Milei launched his shock therapy to break an inflationary spiral that had pushed monthly inflation near 25% percent.
It completes the Heroínas y Héroes de la Patria series created in 2022. The face features the portrait of Juan Bautista Alberdi, the nineteenth-century lawyer, writer, philosopher, and economist. The reverse depicts a recreation of Alberdi's birth home in San Miguel de Tucumán.
Predominant colors are blue and ochre, with green and violet highlights, printed on cotton paper measuring 155 by 65 millimeters. It also has a tactile relief code along the vertical edges for visually impaired users, micro-lettering hidden in the lapel of Alberdi's suit, and a blue windowed security thread that spells BCRA when held to light. For the serious collector, the catalog pick number is P-370.
