1,000 Argentine Pesos Banknote (2023) UNC
The 1,000 Argentine Pesos banknote is the fourth-largest denomination currently in circulation in Argentina, issued by the Banco Central de la República Argentina (BCRA) on July 14, 2023.
This banknote launched the Heroínas y Héroes de la Patria series and was the first note in the family to reach circulation. For collectors, it marks the return of José de San Martín to Argentine currency after his image disappeared with the discontinued 5-peso note in 2021. San Martín, the Liberator and father of the nation, led the emancipatory struggles of Argentina, Chile, and Peru.
It belongs to the Heroínas y Héroes de la Patria series created in 2022. The face features the portrait of José de San Martín. The reverse depicts an artistic representation of the Crossing of the Andes, which began on January 17, 1817, with the Sol de Mayo above and arms on the lower right edge.
Predominant colors are deep orange and deep purple on a light multishade orange, green, and purple underprint, printed on cotton paper measuring 155 by 65 millimeters. It also has a watermark revealing San Martín's portrait and his initials, a golden windowed security thread with an eternal flame design appearing in three windows that changes tone when tilted and spells BCRA when held to light, optically variable ink where the eternal flame shifts from violet to bronze with a three-dimensional effect, a latent image of the initials RA, a see-through register that completes to show 1000, and a tactile relief code along the vertical edges for visually impaired users. For the serious collector, the catalog pick number is P-367.
